I just tasted the New Glarus Enigma last night. Well made to be sure -- I picked up the sourness in the aroma, as well as a very low barnyardiness. Very nice. Flavor was same plus tart cherry and oak. The oak is nice in smaller amounts, but here I thought it was overdone. Of course, I guess they didn't really try to control the amount of oak seeing as how it was aged in oak casks. But to me it distracted a bit more than it should. Maybe they aged it too long, or not long enough? I'm no expert but I guess I just don't like oak THAT much. To brew this at home with little oak chips, I'd use a smaller amount to provide a hint without being overpoweringly woody.

Overall, this is a complex sipping beer, not one you want to slam three of. I'd score it in the upper 30s... maybe a 38. The extent of the oak took it down those few notches for me personally. But otherwise, what a unique and delicious brew.
